One of the more interesting players in the intown market in Atlanta has been Jim Borders and his Novare Group. I first became aware of Borders at the time of his redevelopment of the Biltmore in Midtown. When the Metropolis was built I was favorably impressed.
Lately the success of the Metropolis seems to have encouraged Borders and the Novare Group to aggressively build to residential densities unheard of in Atlanta up to this point. It'll be really interesting to see what effect this has on the Midtown and Downtown areas on which they are focussing.
The following links are to articles on works in progress in Atlantic Station, the Civic Center area between Downtown and Midtown, and the Centennial Park area.
Twelve, a development in Atlantic Station will include 404 condos, 101 hotel rooms, 10,000 square feet of retail space, and a 5,000 square foot restaurant.
Peachtree Portal near the Civic Center straddling Midtown and the north section of Downtown will include a 1,000 unit residential tower.
And finally the Novare Group is beginning a 1,000 unit pair of towers on Alexander Street at Centennial Park. In aggregate these projects should have an enormous impact on Downtown and Midtown, and should be really interesting to follow. And as the sites are cleared and construction begins, I'll be posting some progress photos here.
