In the comments section to my post Reconnecting, Tom posted a link to the rendering of the 5th Street Bridge project (click here to go the the Midtown Alliance article on the project) which will connect Technology Square with the main body of the Tech campus in a much more pedestrian friendly manner than most bridge projects. I'm going to keep hammering away at the issue of reconnecting the broken neighborhoods because to me it's fundamental to transforming Atlanta into truly liveable city. The intown areas consist of a collection of really good neighborhoods seperated by terrible arterial roads and ill conceived urban expressways. We need to get the process underway of knitting the fabric of the neighborhoods back together.
What about Moreland? Crossing over Moreland has got to be as important, if not more important, than crossing over I-20, and probably the solutions are less expensive as well.
What are your ideas for reconnecting the communities across Moreland Avenue?

Thought you might find this interesting, even if it is slightly off topic. The original design for the viaduct project in the first decade of the 1900's was to construct a plaza over the entirety of the railroads. It was proposed to be called Bleckley Plaza, after the designer.
That would have made a great impact on downtown Atlanta - for one, it would have been the oldest city park and would have possibly made the Five Points area a more favorable business center to this date. Perhaps you already knew about the plan Larry - just wanted to make a comment considering the similarity between wide railroad ROWs & freeways.
