An interesting new forum has been added to Bike Forums, a resource I mentioned in one of my previous posts. It's the Utility Cycling forum, and covers an aspect of cycling which I think has been neglected in recent years, particularly in the U.S. A lot of the focus on cycling has centered on commuting and recreational cycling. The third major type of cycling, which in my opinion is a special category, is utility cycling. Utility cycling consists of using the bicycle for the errands and utility trips most people in the U.S. perform in a car. It covers a wide range of activities, equipment, and personal ingenuity. The activities would include grocery shopping, visiting friends, or even using the bike for the purpose of moving.
There are many overlaps between commuting, recreational cycling, and utility cycling but on a worldwide basis utility cycling is the main use to which the bicycle is put, and I think this is going to be a very useful and lively forum.
Thanks for tipping me off to the existence of the utility cycling forum. I followed the debate around spinning it off of the car free forum, but quickly lost interest when the bickering reached a certain level.

The Honda D engine is a family of inline 4-cylinder engines used in a variety of compact Honda models, most commonly the Honda Civic, CRX, Logo, Stream, and first-generation Integra. Its displacement ranges between 1.2 and 1.7 liters and is available in SOHC and DOHC versions; with some SOHC models equipped with VTEC. Power range started from 62 hp (46 kW) to 130 hp (97 kW). The D-series was introduced in 1984 and ended production in 2005 with the introduction of the 8th generation Honda Civic.

So I am thinking of signing up for the FRONT RUNNER bicycle century ride in Utah. It is near the route for the Salt Lake City Century. I think that it will be a good warm up for LOTOJA or ULCER rides as well. I am looking for a good Garmin profile or for a mapmyride profile but I have not found one. Do you know of any? http://www.frontrunnercentury.com
