Over the past several years I came to the realization that although I was constantly involved in a frenzy of activity I was never really able to get anything worked to completion. In fact I was awash in a sea of random details, clutter, and looming deadlines.
About a year ago I became aware of two related self help movements which contained a lot of interesting food for thought. One was the productivity movement which included the Getting Things Done (GTD) program. The other was the Simplification movement, which is related to productivity to the extent that beyond a certain level of complexity no one can sustain productivity, no matter what impressive computerized tracking tools one might have.
I began reading blogs related to these two topics and stumbled upon a few useful blogs.
One of my favorites is Zenhabits, and is written by Leo Babauta. It has many suggestions for how to simplify one's life by making decisions about one's values, goals, and priorities.
One of my favorite posts on this wonderful blog is Everything You Wanted to Know about Simplifying Your Life and Way More.
I highly recommend this fantastic resource.
For implementing ZTD you might try out this web-based application:
http://www.gtdagenda.com
You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version is available too.
As with the last update, now you can add or invite Contacts, and share your Projects and Contexts with them.
Hope you like it.
