I pride myself on being patient, and I also realize that complex systems sometime break down. However, the reliability of ATT since the beginning of this year has been jarring. We've had extended rounds of problems with our service since the beginning of the year, including land line outage, internet outage, and substantial amounts of line noise.
This particular round of problems is particularly noxious because of the time ATT is estimating before they start working on it. Landline phone service went down on Friday of last week, internet service stopped the next day, and a technician is going to start working on it next Saturday. Bear in mind that this is a problem on ATT's side of our service feed, not from within our house.
I haven't investigated options for internet service in a very long time. When I was shopping some years back the only two viable players were ATT (Bellsouth at that time), and Comcast. I eliminated Comcast because of the bundling options, and their reputation for poor and arrogant service. I had no interest in cable television, and I still don't. It may be time for me to look at the current options for internet service. I did an analogy of ATT's service and intermittent windshield wipers in the title. It isn't quite accurate. At least intermittent windshield wipers operate on a predictable schedule, and if they stop working at all, I can get service on them in less than eight days.
