I usually don't pay much attention to ad campaigns. I don't even watch the Superbowl advertisements which are so entertaining to many of my friends. But I recently began experimenting with the placement of google ads on my site. My goal is to make the ads reasonably prominent without detracting from the content of my blog, or annoying my readers It's a moving target, and is pretty subjective. When I visit sites my brain automatically turns off the advertisements, so I barely notice them unless they are making noise or spinning and flashing.
While moving the ads around on my own site, though, I became more aware of the specific ads Google was inserting onto my sidebar. The one which caught my eye the quickest was a "Game of Thrones" parody from Georgia Natural Gas. In Game of Thrones, the motto of the Stark family is "Winter is Coming".
The Georgia Natural Gas ad had an approximate replica of the Game of Thrones graphic, but the text read "Game of Therms", "Winter is Always Coming".
The ad won't affect my choice of gas provider (therm rate is the only thing which sways me), but I have to give them kudos for a very funny campaign.
