I've created a photo album called West End. This morning after dropping my wife off for a medical procedure I spent a short time wandering around Peeples Street, Abernathy Drive, and Ogelthorpe Avenue.
West End contains large clusters of beautiful intact 19th and early 20th Century urbanism. All my shots were taken within a few short blocks of what is a very large neighborhood. West End was a sizable independent town in the 19th Century and it still maintains the sense of town center and town edges.
The Atlanta Public School System often gets bashed, but whoever has been maintaining the building and grounds of the historic Brown school (formerly High School, now Middle School) be they staff or parents, deserve praise. I was very pleased at the shape of that building.
I may post a short history of West End later, but since most discussions of West End begin and end with explorations of racial relations in Atlanta, I'm going to just let the photos speak for themselves this time around. West End is a gorgeous, gorgeous neighborhood.
