It hasn't been released yet, but Jane Jacobs, author of the classic The Death and Life of Great American Cities has written a new soon to be released book, Dark Age Ahead, and the news is rapidly propogating thoughout New Urbanist blogdom.
John Massengale has posted excerpts from a couple of reviews on his blog Veritas et Venustas.
Since the 1960s Jane Jacobs's work Death and Life of Great American Cities has been a must read work for anyone interested in knowing how cities properly function. The value of her work in my opinion is to put forward the proposition that cities should behave like cities, and not like suburbs, or small towns, or clustered villages.
When they are well done small towns or suburbs can be wonderful places. But a city is a different form of human settlement, and Jacobs has in the past done a marvelous job of pointing out the attributes of a well functioning city. I'm looking very much forward to the release of this book.
